VOLUNTEER POSITIONS
Thanks for your interest in volunteering! SET-UPJoin us in the morning to set up and prepare the site for the day’s events. Duties may involve unloading and distributing supplies, setting up tables and chairs, and hanging banners and signage. Set-up may be different at each site and may involve a variety of tasks, but your help is critical in ensuring that everything is ready to go before the walkers arrive! REGISTRATIONRegistration volunteers greet and check-in walkers, collect pledge envelopes, and provide general event information to walkers checking in. Registration volunteers will be trained on the specific process at mandatory training sessions the morning of the event. GREETERSGreeters will welcome walkers, answer questions, and direct them to the appropriate areas at the walk site, ensure registration lines are moving quickly and that walkers have all necessary materials complete before they get to the front of the line. TEAM TENTSPlay concierge to walkers in Team Village by helping them decorate their tents, re-stock food and drinks as needed, gather them for a team photo, and help with any other needs. VOLUNTEER CHECK-INThis crew will check in all registered volunteers and distribute t-shirts to volunteers. Throughout the day, this crew may re-assign volunteers if needed. BREAKFASTBreakfast volunteers will set up the breakfast area and serve breakfast to walkers. They will also serve smiling faces to greet walkers on an early morning! LUNCHYum! Lunch volunteers will transition the food tent from breakfast to lunch then serve lunch to walkers and volunteers. After lunch, volunteers will help clean up the lunch area and will break down the lunch tent. PRIZE AND T-SHIRT DISTRIBUTIONWalkers will be sent to the prize distribution area after checking in. Volunteers will congratulate walkers by distributing the appropriate prize and t-shirt. ROUTE SUPPORT VEHICLE (SAG) DRIVERSRequires use of own vehicle and valid driver’s license. Support walkers while driving along the route, transport walkers and supplies to various locations along the route or to the Start/Finish area. Must be encouraging and enthusiastic to walkers and report potential emergencies or problems along the route to the site leaders. HAM RADIO OPERATORRadio operators will provide communication from check points and along the route. REST STOPThis is great for a volunteer group. Set up rest stop supplies and re-stock supplies as needed. You will create a fun atmosphere for all by cheering and providing food and beverages for participants as they take a short rest. TRAFFIC CONTROLYour task will be to keep traffic moving as freely as possible throughout the event. Traffic control volunteers will direct cars to parking spaces, direct walkers and volunteers to the site, and hang up necessary directional signs before the event begins. PROFESSIONAL (Massage, Face Painters, Cheerleaders, etc.)Got a special talent? Share your skills with Walk MS participants to make it a memorable experience for all. (Massage therapists, comedians, musicians, face-painters, truck drivers, etc.) PHOTOGRAPHYSay cheese! You will take team photos, start and finish line photos, route, and festival photos. TEAM PHOTO COORDINATORAssist the event photographer by gathering and organizing teams for their team photo. MEDICAL SUPPORTEnsure that all walkers have a safe and enjoyable experience by providing medical support as needed. You will be supplied with a medical box of supplies. SPIRIT AT MILESTONESThis is a great opportunity for those wishing to volunteer as a group! Set up at a mile marker and cheer on walkers as they move towards a world free of MS. Don’t worry—we’ll provide noisemakers, so you’ll still have your voice the next day. WALL OF HOPEHelp walkers share why they walk by writing a message on paper and with your help, posting it on a large fabric wall. FINISH FESTIVAL AND SPIRITLet's party! This is the time for celebration! Finish Festival volunteers will cheer walkers across the finish line, hand out Walk Medals, and celebrate with walkers as they return! ROUTE SWEEPDrive your own vehicle along the walk route as the last walker passes and take down route signs. Two people are needed- one to drive and another to hop out and take down signs. As you pass rest stops, you will let them know they can start breaking down since the last walker has passed. TEAR DOWNTear down volunteers are all stars! You will help clean up the site, pack supplies and tents, and remove banners and signage. Want to volunteer prior to the event?
TRUCK DRIVERSVolunteers will assist in the transportation of our supplies and goods to and from the walk site. Volunteers will also be a vital asset in the heavy loading and unloading of our supply trucks. Must be able to drive large trucks, have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and subject to a background check. MASS DISTRIBUTIONHelp us spread the word about the Walk MS and the mission of the National MS Society in your own community by passing out posters and brochures. |
